Nerja is a small resort (population around 15,000)
located on the quiet side of the Costa del Sol. The
town caters fully for visitors with excellent tapas
bars, restaurants and leisure facilities. At the
same time Nerja has also managed to maintain its
original Spanish character. Local by-laws have
prevented high-rise developments to ensure tourists
can experience the real Spain.
The old town of Nerja is characterised by narrow
winding streets and traditional white houses. At the
historic centre is the Balcón de Europa which
provides a viewing point above the sea. The area is
lined with palm trees and is often the focal point
for festivals and processions.
The Andalucían town of Nerja is only a 40 minute
drive from Málaga Airport. It is within a 1½ hour
drive of Granada and the famous Alhambra. The
typical Andalucían village of Frigiliana is only 6km
away. The spectacular Cuevas de Nerja (Nerja Caves)
at Maro are a 4km journey. Nerja is also close to a
number of golf courses.

Beaches
________________________________
Nerja
has 9 kms of beaches, including the internationally
famous Burriana Beach that has once again been
awarded the Blue Flag of the European Union
for its clean beach. The Burriana Beach is only 5
mins walk from our apartment.
Nerja used to be described as the Costa del Sol’s
best-kept secret but there’s an alley off the Balcon
between the hotel and the church, which leads to
Nerja’s best-kept secret, Playa El Salon that many
regular visitors to the town never find. Further
west are Playa La Torrecilla and Playa El Playazo,
both of which can be reached down Avda Castilla
Pérez, one of Nerja’s busiest Streets. |

Balcon
de Europa _________________________
The historic centre, of which the Balcon de Europa
(Balcony of Europe) is part, was constructed around
1487. Formerly a IX Century Castle, it is now a
viewing point above the sea. At Calahonda gap, the
Paseo de Carabineros begins a scenic path winding
its way through rocks bordering the seashore down to
the Burriana Beach. To the side of the Balcon, you
will find the XVII Century El Salvador Church,
constructed in Baroque-mudejar style. You may also
visit the XVI Century “Nuestra Señora de las
Angustias” Hermitage with its paintings by the
master Alonso Cano. |
